What you'll study in Middle School Mathematics

The Pearson Mathematics syllabus covers 5 topics. Your teacher works through them with you one-to-one, at a pace that matches how quickly you pick each one up.

In Mathematics, learners:

  • engage in creative mathematical thinking to generate elegant solutions
  • improve numerical fluency and knowledge of key mathematical concepts to make sense of numbers, patterns, shapes, measurements and data
  • develop a variety of mathematical skills, strategies and a way of thinking that will enable them to describe the world around them and play an active role in modern society
  • communicate solutions and ideas logically in spoken and written language using appropriate mathematical symbols, diagrams and representations
  • understand that technology provides a powerful way of communicating mathematics, one which is particularly important in an increasingly technological and digital world.

How Middle School Mathematics is assessed

1 externally marked paper, set by Pearson. Exams are sat in person at a registered exam centre — your success coach helps you find one near you.

Paper 1 & 2 - Written test

60 minutes

Papers 1 and 2 include a mixture of numerical answers, labelling diagrams, multiple choice, graphical and matching items. Questions test content from the corresponding stage of the Mathematics curriculum. All questions are compulsory in both papers.
