Candidiates for Cambridge International AS Level and A level study the following topics:

  • Producing informed responses appropriate to the specified form, style, context, and audiences

How A-Level English Language is assessed

4 externally marked papers, set by Cambridge and Pearson. Exams are sat in person at a registered exam centre — your success coach helps you find one near you.

Paper 1

2 hours 15 minutes

Reading. Candidates answer two compulsory questions: Question 1 in Section A, and Question 2 in Section B. Externally assessed

Paper 2

2 hours

Writing. Candidates answer two questions: one compulsory question from Section A, and one question from a choice of three in Section B. Externally assessed

Paper 2

2 hours 15 minutes

Language Analysis. Candidates answer two compulsory questions: Question 1 in Section A, and Question 2 in Section B. Externally assessed

Paper 2

2 hours 15 minutes

Language Topics. Candidates answer two compulsory questions each on a separate topic area: Question 1 in Section A, and Question 2 in Section B. Externally assessed
